The Fated Friday the 13th

13 May

Number 13 is believed to be a bad luck number. Some buildings don’t even have floor 13, some houses avoid number 13, and some even believe bad luck falls on Friday the 13th. Are you one of those?

I don’t completely believe that entirely, but today’s incident kind of makes me re-think it and I was completely caught off guard, totally unexpected.

My morning started with the usual -working out then ate my breakfast/post workout meal after I got to work.
Baked sweet potatoes and a slice of Egg Loaf Frittata.

Got hungry a bit before lunch time so I scarfed down a small container of Bo Bo Cha Cha I made couple days ago.

And then the incident happened.

I was shocked, sad, angry, disappointed and had a little hard time to digest the whole situation when I was told from today I am no longer bringing home the check. To top it off, Hubby K also got canned couple days ago because the place went down. How could this happen? One of us, fine, we could do it. But both of us??? It was hard for me to digest the whole thing. I couldn’t even contain my tears whenever I thought back of what just happened today.

I had not much appetite but I still finished my “packed” lunch at home.

Shared a container of oranges with Hubby K.

We went out to shop some stuff for Hubby K (his wireless internet was getting annoying so he rather get the network cable)

We also made a pit stop at Henry’s Market cause I saw their macadamia nuts were on sale for $9.99/lbs! Can’t beat that price! (penny pinching mode has begun)

*sigh* I guess I really have to say bye bye to grass fed beef and organic stuff.

Got home, I felt like I wanted to sweat out all my devastation and anxiety so I blasted 2 more workouts back to back! Today I did a total 3 workouts! I was sweaty but at the same time I felt a bit lighter and not as devastated as before.

Didn’t really eat a full dinner, other than the last half baked sweet potato and munched on the macadamia nuts.

Anyway, this will be a big challenge for both Hubby K and I. I might want to sleep this over, get my mind together, fix my resume and start job hunting. We’ll see how’s out there. I will miss my beloved co-worker C, who was also being let go.

Not everything was bad though. I checked my email and my Braised-to-Oven Fried Chicken recipe was chosen by Tropical Traditons to be featured on their recipe page. As a reward, they’ll give me 1 FREE quart of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil. A small thing but it lighten up my mood today. 🙂 If you want to get a free coconut oil from Tropical Traditions, submit your favorite recipe using coconut at their website. More detailed info can be read here.

Good night everyone.

How do you deal with devastation?

Web design is a good field, you should find something better soon. I guess the main thing you can do now is work on your portfolio, work on an open source project you are interested in, or do something design related that is fun. In this way you can demonstrate to your next employer that when life gives you lemons you make lemonade! Also any open source work makes you look really into your field and you may even make some contacts through that leading to future employment.

Aw hell! That’s awful, but especially terrible in light of you both being suddenly unemployed. Take some days off to relax and focus on yourself before you try to get right back in the march.

Oh my gosh, they fired you just like that?!?! 😯 😦 I’m so sorry! I hope you’ll find a new job soon!

Speaking of Friday 13th … I usually don’t believe in that, but on Friday my pressure cooker almost exploded. (It was an old one.) I’m happy nothing happened to me, but it frightened me a lot.

Oh no! I’m so so sorry to hear about your bad news, Jos. Hang in there and try to stay positive though. Things just have a way of working themselves out. Maybe this is the beginning of a whole new and better job. Best of luck with everything. Exercise is a great way to release stress.

hi jos, i am so sorry to hear of both of your job loses, this can not be easily digested until it happens to oneself. years ago it was enough for me, after working for 9 outfits in 15 years i finally realized all w2 employment is either seasonal or nonsustainable. i was always the last to go but always went. it was then that i started my own business and have never looked back. this was not easily done, but what is yours you can keep. maybe… ie,obama. you and many others know how how strong minded you are, as f&z would tell you, just stay loose and flexible. adapt yourself & have faith, god will open doors. yours truly, gary

Gary, thanks for sharing your experience. I truly appreciate it. I think we decided to get our stuff ready first before searching for another job.

Oh no, that sucks 😦 What were you doing? What about your husband? Do you have degrees or will it be easy to find another job? It is so hard to find things to do now 😦 I hope you find a new job soon though!

Oh Jos, I am so sorry to hear that!!! I know exactly how hard it it to lose a job. My husband lost his job 3 years ago and I was the only one working. It was the hardest time ever, and we got into debt so easily…
I have no idea what your jobs were (sorry, didn’t read it all yet..) but I am sure you will not have a big problem finding a new one. It is difficult to leave the place you like, people you love… But as one cliche says: Something ends, something new begins. And I am sure that is and old true… I wish you both luck, keep us updated on how are things going!!! :-*
